Carl’s practice areas have included defense of civil litigation involving automobiles (personal and commercial), insurance coverage, first party and bad faith litigation, premises liability (residential and commercial), the Employers Liability Law, maritime, product liability, construction defect, employment law (discrimination, wrongful discharge), defamation, sexual abuse, assault, security/false arrest, malicious prosecution and appeals in varied areas. He has substantial experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution, including Arbitration and Mediation, both as a litigator and an Arbitrator. Carl has been litigating cases for 23 years and is AV rated. He has been recognized for outstanding trial results by a prominent insurer. Carl is admitted to practice in Oregon, Washington, the United States
District Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth
Circuit. Carl has been a speaker at Multnomah Bar Association and OADC presentations for continuing legal education. |

Carl was born
in 1951 in Hong Kong and grew up in Southern California, before moving to
Portland in 1975. After completing his undergraduate degree he was
licensed in California, and later in Oregon and Washington, as an
insurance adjuster, handling first and third party claims in all three
states from 1973 to1979, with an emphasis on litigation. After attending
law school he began practicing law in 1982, as an associate attorney and
subsequently as a partner in Vergeer, Roehr and Sweek, and later the
merged firm of Cosgrave, Vergeer and Kester, both firms emphasizing the
defense of civil litigation. In 1990 Carl became a partner in, and a
member of, Lehner, Mitchell, Rodrigues and Sears, continuing to defend
civil litigation in multiple practice areas. Since 2002 he has remained a
partner in Lehner and Rodrigues.
